My aunt was showing me her new site, radiantview.com and I came across her article on “Finding the Vagina Warrior” in the Filipina Woman. Whoa, I didn’t know she was one of those who got selected to deliver a monologue in the Filipina Women’s Network production of “The Vagina Monologues”. Hehe, I can just imagine my aunt . She has this natural flair of acting and drama. I was really touched when she surprised me by travelling all the way to the Philippines just a few days before my debut party.
My aunt from San Francisco just sent me an email about the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Apl Song” . She said that they were looking at “out of the box thinking” ways for the American politicians to act on the plight of our World War II Filipino veterans.
Well what happened to the July 26 campaign?
I watched Imelda , the documentary film by Ramona Diaz, and winner for Best Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival. It “features stunning candid interviews with the former Philippines first lady and an array of childhood friends, opponents and observers". Now I know why she wanted it banned here in the Philippines.
OHMYGOD!!
It has got to be the funniest documentary I’ve ever seen. I spent half of it laughing and the other half letting out shrieks of “What?!” - much to the annoyance of the other people in the theater. The woman is delusional and actually has her own (twisted) philosophy. “It is easy to be beautiful, because beauty is natural.”.
She even wrote a book about Imeldism (she didn’t call it that - I did) , and the whole thing is weird. It involves beauty and is so confusing, I had difficulty following it. So I won’t bother trying to write it down and explain it to you but hey, I actually admire her for doing that. Many viewers’ favourite moment has been when Ms Marcos draws pictures to demonstrate her philosophy of life. She explains, in a somewhat confusing manner, that the circle of life can also be a smiley face, but when it is broken it becomes a Pac-Man.
Someday I’ll write a book about the philosophy I live by.
A review on Imelda.
Philosophical musing for today (something I learned from Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder):

Did you know that when you look at the stars in the sky, you are actually looking back in time? The universe is vast beyond comprehension and the distance between the earth and the stars is so great, they are measured in light-minutes and light-years. A light-minute is the measurement of the distance light travels in one minute. Light travels through space at 300,000 kilometers a second. A light-minute, therefore, is 18 million kilometers. One light-year is approximately around ten trillion kilometers.
The furthest planet away from earth in the solar system is Pluto, around 5 light-hours away from us. So when you look at Pluto through a telescope, you are actually looking five hours back in time.
The entire Milky Way is 90,000 light-years wide. So when we gaze at a star in our galaxy, 50,000 light years away from the sun, we are looking back 50,00 years in time. Beyond our galaxy, there are a hundred billion stars. The nearest galaxy to ours, the Andromeda nebula, is two million light-years away. That means the light from that galaxy takes two million years to reach us. So we’re actually looking back in time when we see the Andromeda nebula in the sky.
And apparently, no galaxy in space remains where it is. All galaxies in the universe move further away from each other at incredible speeds. The further they are away from us, the faster they move. The universe has no geography. So when astronomers pick up light from galaxies billions of light-years away, they are actually charting the universe as it looked during the Big Bang. Everything we see in the sky is cosmic fossil from millions of years ago. And that is why I no longer believe in astrology. All it does is predict the past.
I just watched the world premier showing of Spiderman 2 at the Powerplant Mall. Migo had extra, complimentary tickets. And while I’m not really a fan of comic book heroes turned mainstream movie idols, a free movie is a free movie. And so I went along with Ponci, Pat, and Ail (and Migo, duh). Spiderman 2 was okay, in terms of special effects and stuff, but the overall effect on me was blah.

Ahhhh, I love this song….“Fell in love with a boy” by teenage soul singer, Joss Stone. When I first heard it on the radio yesterday, I recognized it as a reinterpretation of the White Stripes Fell In Love With A Girl. Wow, I can’t believe she’s only 16. Here’s a clip.
But I put an end to it.
Here is the movie review of JU-ON:The Grudge which I wrote for the school ezine, Guidon altG. I watched more than half of the film from behind a tiny gap between my fingers. Hehe, I had to watch it a second time just to write this review .
