Angelo de la Cruz was released…

Angelo de la Cruz was released by his captors in Iraq. Wow, and I thought it was a hopeless case.

Angelo de la Cruz’ fate

ARMED men (above) read a statement demanding the withdrawal of the Philippine humanitarian team to Iraq with their hostage, Angelo de la Cruz.

As of last night, he has less than 24 hours to live before he gets beheaded.

Imagine that! Oour freaking government took a whole day to find out if he was a Filipino or not and if he needed any assistance.

And today, the President ordered a news blackout on this hostage crisis. The President did not mention whether or not the government would consider withdrawing its troops in Iraq as demanded by the rebel group who abducted De la Cruz on Thursday. Yeah, why would she? Angelo de la Cruz’ fate is at the hands of his captors.
And I’m not optimistic. Before De la Cruz, these insurgents had held hostage and beheaded their American and Korean hostages after their respective countries failed to accede to their demand to pullout from Iraq.

PreShow non-spoiler:Margin of Voting

In an interview on Access Hollywood just now, Ryan Seacrest just reported (without mentioning the winner, of course) that the voting difference between winner and runner-up tonight for American Idol 3 was just over 1 %.

just ONE PERCENT DIFFERENCE?

I don’t like either Fantasia or Diana but am leaning more towards Diana.

‘Borderless world does not preclude the idea of a home’

Patricia Evangelista, 19, won the International Public Speaking competition conducted by the English Speaking Union [ESU] in London early this month. The second-year Mass Communications student from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, beat 59 other student contestants from 37 countries, with her five-minute talk on the theme, “A Borderless World.”

This was an impromptu speech. Goodness, she thinks really fast!

WHEN I was little, I wanted what many Filipino children all over the country wanted. I wanted to be blond, blue-eyed and white.

I thought - if I just wished hard enough and was good enough, I’d wake up on Christmas morning with snow outside my window and freckles across my nose!

More than four centuries under western domination can do that to you. I have 16 cousins. In a couple of years, there will just be five of us left in the Philippines, the rest will have gone abroad in search of “greener pastures.” It’s not an anomaly; it’s a trend; the Filipino diaspora. Today, about eight million Filipinos are scattered around the world.

beheading video

For the past 2 days. it was disturbing to see stat referrers at BLOGGED, searching for “beheading video” ( It was from a very old post of some other beheading video done in the Philippines) My curiosity got the best of me and waded through a few of the links. Well people have the choice to click a link or not . I’m such chicken wuss to view such gory video footages.

A written description would probably be better than the video.

Forward this mail to each Filipino.

FILIPINO

YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the our local government does not
pick up the garbage and does not manage well
the cleanliness of the land.
YOU say that the phones don’t work, the traffic
is a joke, mail never reach its destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs
and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say, What do YOU do about it?

ugh

Fear of Poe drags peso to all-time low; stocks fall. THE PRESIDENTIAL bid of popular actor Fernando Poe Jr. spooked Philippine financial markets Thursday, pulling the peso down to an all-time low of 55.85 to the dollar and pulling share prices down by nearly two percent. He wants to run for President of the Philippines to save our country. Grr, can’t he see what’s happening? This is not the movies. It’s reality. If you run, the country will go to the dogs.

Tony Perez and the Spirit Questors: Shamans or Shams?

Tony Perez and the Spirit Questors: Shamans or Shams? is an article that I co-wrote with another Guidon staff member. It was orginally intended to be written by me but our boss rejected the article of my co-staff member. So anyway, we had to share the topic…

“Psychic Powers and Shamanism” is not a class one would expect to be found in a Catholic university. However, this unusual subject was offered by the Interdisciplinary Studies department of the Ateneo eight years ago, with Tony Perez as the facilitator. read more?

Bush state visit to the Philippines

President Bush is only staying for 8 hours and there’s been a lot of preparations for his state visit.

From the Philippine flags flying beside the Stars and Stripes along the Palace gate, to the new 372-meter red carpet, to the colorful tiny buntings strung above the specially built “nipa” frond huts dotting the gardens, it was Filipino-style fiesta for the “real-time” dress rehearsal for the visit of US President George W. Bush.
